Mathematics teacher candidates focus on the development of their content knowledge in mathematics. Content strands align with the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics:

The teacher candidates develop their mathematics pedagogy as they study research in mathematics teaching and learning. They learn ways to develop students' Mathematical Proficiencies (NRC, 2001) of conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, strategic competence, adaptive reasoning, and productive disposition. Additionally, teachers focus on integrating the CCSSM Mathematical Practices into their classroom learning (CCSSM, 2010).
